PRAYER TO START FAST
I intend to fast on this day of Ramadan

PRAYER TO END FAST
Oh Allah, I have fasted for you, I believe and depend on you, I break this fast with the provision you have provided.

The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "He who observes the fast of the month of Ramadan with sincere faith and hope for the reward of Allah will have his past sins forgiven." [Related by Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "Every good deed of the son of Adam will be multiplied. He will receive ten-fold to seven hundred fold reward for a good deed.

Fasting during Ramadan is compulsory (Fardh) for every Muslim who is sane and healthy. Children are not obliged to fast but if they want, they ought to be encouraged, so that they become use to it for their future life. While fasting you must abstain from all kinds of food, drink, sins and smoking.

Acts which don’t effect the fast.
To eat or drink in forget-fulness, to apply “surma” (eye make-up) or use eye drops, hair oil, cream or perfume. To swallow saliva, to clean teeth with a brush or green tooth stick without tooth paste, or to use miswak.

Acts which break the fast
There are nine acts which invalidate fast:

Things which are Makrooh for a Person Observing Fast
Certain things are Makrooh for a person observing fast, some of them are mentioned below :

It is also Makrooh for a fasting person to court or woo his wife without the intention of ejaculation; or to do something which excites him sexually. And if he does it with the intention of ejaculation, and no ejaculation takes place, his fast, as an obligatory precaution, will be deemed void.

The Kaffarah of leaving out a fast of Ramadan is to: (Breaking a fast)

(a) free a slave, or (b) fast for two months or (c) feed sixty poor to their fill or give one mudd (= 3/4 kg.) of food-stuff, like, wheat or barley or bread etc. to each of them. And if it is not possible for him to fulfil any of these, he should give Sadaqa according to his means and seek Divine forgiveness. And the obligatory precaution is that he should give Kaffarah as and when he is capable to do so.

Tarawih prayer

It is a special prayer which is offered in congregation every night after isha prayer and is compulsory (sunna mo akda) both for men and women even for the person who does not observe the fast due to some valid reason it consists of 20 rakaa, in the prayer the whole para of the qur’an is recited by the imam throughout the month. There is a separate provision for ladies to offer travih and Friday prayers after prayers every night there is a brief commentary on a chapter of the Quran recited in the trivih prayer.

Mustahab Fasts
Fasting is Mustahab on every day of a year except those on which it is haraam or Makrooh to observe a fast. Some of them which have been strongly recommended are mentioned here:

(i) The first and last Thursday of every month and the first Wednesday after the 10th of a month. If a person does not observe these fasts it is Mustahab that he gives their qadha. And if he is incapable of fasting, it is Mustahab for him to give one mudd of food or prescribed coined silver to poor.
Fasting is also recommended on 27th of Rajab - the day the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) declared his Prophethood.
If a person observes a Mustahab fast, it is not obligatory on him to complete it. In fact, if one of his brethren-in-faith invites him to a meal, it is Mustahab that he accepts the invitation and breaks the fast during the day time even if it may be after Zuhr.
